Made up of 100% Tinta de Toro, all fruit comes from proprietary vineyards located in Valdefinjas, Villabuena del Puente, and Toro, within the Toro DO. The head-trained vines were planted between 1915-1971 and grow upon beds of predominately sandy-clay soils with a limestone subsoil. The grapes are hand-harvested and 100% destemmed. Temperature-controlled fermentation occurs in open French oak deposits with selected indigenous yeast. The grapes then see a traditional foot press, with a following maceration lasting 23 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in new French oak Bordelaise barrels, where the wine ages for 20 months.
