This bottling of 100% Zinfandel hails from the organically farmed Rorick Vineyard in Calaveras. The vines are around 17 years old and the vineyard is planted southeastern facing at 2,000 feet in elevation upon beds of schist over limestone. The wine is 100% whole cluster fermented and the grapes are left for 7 days on their skin before aging entirely in neutral oak for 4 and a half months.
Aromatically this wine is perfumed with dusty, brambly berry fruits, a touch of jalapeno, and game. On the palate the wine is bright with refreshing acidity and a balance of ripe and under ripe berry fruits.
