The village of Ürzig lies surrounded by vineyards in the great bend in the Mosel river. Ürzig is on the river's left bank, where very steep slopes rise up to the Eifel mountains. The vines grow upon red volcanic sandstone while their age averages at 120+ and are planted upon original rootstock. After harvest the fruit is fermented with indigenous yeasts in traditional 1000L Fuder casks. It is matured on the full lees for 12 months with no bâtonnage.
Aromatically the wine is full of spring blooms, honey-ed stone fruits, and warm spices. On the palate the wine is much more linear, with notes of lime zest, chalky minerality, medium bodied weight and a lingering spiciness.
