The fruit for this wine comes only from parcels with blue slate soil, which is the most typical type of slate in the Middle Mosel valley in villages such as Bernkastel, Graach, and Wehlen. Rich in potassium, this soil provides vital nutrients to the vines and gives the wines a pronounced mineral edge. The grapes are farmed sustainably and come harvest are carefully hand selected. After harvest the undergo cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks before the fermentation process is stopped by chilling.
Aromatically this wine is bright with barely ripened orchard fruit flavors, lemon zest, flint, and honeysuckle. The palate is much more linear, with heaps of bracing minerality and refreshing acidity.
