The Calesa vineyard, farmed by Oscar Renteria, is a haven for cool-climate Chardonnay. With it's exposure to fog and wine from the Petaluma Gap, the grapes ripen slowly and develope beautiful flavors with desirable acidity. The soils are shallow, gravelly loam, and Chappellet harvests fruit from the hillside blocks of low yielding vines.
Aromatically the wine has notes of meyer lemon, orange zest, and a hint of tropical flowers. On the palate the wine is creamy with notes of melted butter, and brioche, as well as fruity flavors of lemon, lychee, and apricot with lingering notes of fine tobacco smoke.
