75% Garnacha, 20% Tempranillo, 5% Viura, from sustainably grown vines planted in 1930.
VINEYARDS Highest elevation vineyards in Rioja (2,296 ft), on north-facing slopes South of the Ebro. Winemaker Alberto Orte controls the fruit for Sierra de la Demanda from budbreak to bottle, showcasing the profound minerality and precision of this unique terroir.
SOIL Vines are tended in mineral soils of silica, which are very rare in Rioja.
VINIFICATION AND AGING Harvest takes place during the first week of November. These are indeed the last vineyards to be harvested in the Rioja region. 48 hours of cold maceration and 28 days of whole cluster fermentation. Once fermentation is finished, the wine is aged in French oak barrels, out of which the first 6 months the wine is exposed to its own lees.
