"The 2014 Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict Vineyard emerges from the oldest part of the vineyard (and by definition the Sta. Rita Hills) planted in 1971, on own-rooted vines. Floral and savory notes are front and center, while the fruit sits in the background. The Sanford & Benedict Chardonnay is the kind of wine that really deserves to be followed over the course of several hours, as it clearly has so much to say. At this stage, though, the 2014 is tightly wound and not fully expressive." –Sep-16
Fining/Filtering: Light Filtration
Whole cluster pressed to tank, settled briefly before being moved to another tank. After fermentation is active, the juice goes down to barrels and puncheons with no more than 15% new oak. No battonage and full ML. Left on lees for 10 months before going back to tank for an additional 5 months of aging with light filtration prior to bottling.
