Wine Advocate Tascante, 2011 Tascante 'Il Tascante' Sicilia IGT
"A bright ruby color opens the nose of the 2011 Nerello Mascalese Il Tascante and shows no signs of browning or fading. In fact, given the warm vintage, Il Tascante does a great job of preserving the freshness and honesty of the grape varietal. The bouquet does not reach the levels of high fragrance of its predecessors, but it does dole out a steady supply of blackcurrant, flint, ash and grilled herb. In the mouth, it shows drying tannins and a very streamlined, etched feel. There is little body fat here. This is a toned, lean and muscular expression. All said, the aromas are slightly closed at this young stage, but the wine exhibits an admirable Burgundian style which bodes well for its future bottle evolution. -ML" –Sept 2015
From the North slopes of Etna volcano, contradas Sciaranova and Boccadorzo, Randazzo near Catania, Sicily. Terroir: 50+ year old vines grown on terraced, volcanic sediments. 750 meters above sea level. The wine reflects its origins of volcanic black soil & dry lava stone walls. The vineyards here are surrounded by great biodiversity in the oak forests, often interrupted by "sciare" (lava flows) rich of musk and lichens, where man's hands work more than any modern tractor. Appellation: Sicilia, I.G.T.
