"The 2013 Zinfandel Dogtown Vineyard is rich, powerful and immediate, all qualities that are typical of this site, where the soils are rich in clay and volcanic deposits. Dark red and black cherries, licorice, cloves, leather and menthol meld together in a rich, sumptuous Zinfandel loaded with near term appeal. The broad, ample finish is hugely inviting. Planted in 1944, the Dogtown Vineyard in Lodi is farmed by Turley Wine Cellars. This head-trained, own-rooted vineyard is technically within the Clements Hills AVA, which has more topography than the rest of Lodi. The rolling hills are composed of clay & volcanic soils, and vine yields are extremely low.
Winemaking: Fermentation with only natural yeasts; 80% French oak, 20% American oak (80% used, 20% new). Aged for approximately 15 months.
