Torbreck Wines, 2010 Torbreck 'The Descendant' Shiraz

"Deep garnet-purple in color and projecting intense aromas of creme de cassis, warm black plums and blueberry compote enhanced by hints of tar, aniseed, smoked meat and even a slight lift of honeysuckle, the full-bodied 2010 Descendent is already displaying great harmony at this early stage as it fills the mouth with perfumed black fruits supported by medium to firm, rounded tannins and balanced acid. It finishes very long."

Torbreck Wines, 2010 Torbreck 'The Descendant' Shiraz

"The single-vineyard Descendent is a relation of another Torbreck Shiraz, RunRig, based on the same cuttings, Viognier skins and barrels. This 2010 is a composed, ripe, typically tarry rendition with dense black-fruit aromas, chassis and blackberry threads as well as terracotta and abundant dark, toasted spices. Big, rich, fruity wine. The palate has density of flavor and a strong, sturdy base of silky but muscular tannins that carry deep throughout. The pure blackberry and blood-plum flavors linger. Quite stoic for now, it will age triumphantly: Back it for 10 or more years."

Torbreck Wines

This single vineyard wine was planted in 1994 with cuttings off old RunRig vineyards - some of the oldest genetic material in Australia. As the Barossa's first co-fermented Shiraz/Viognier, Descendant has set the precedent for this region.

Shiraz is crushed straight on top of Viognier, which has been lightly pressed for RunRig. The blend of fruit is then co-fermented and later the wine is matured for 18 months in barrels that had been previously used for RunRig.

92% Shiraz & 8% Viognier
