Stephen Tanzer Soter Vineyards, 2012 Soter Pinot Noir North Valley
"Fresh red and dark berry aromas are spiced up by white pepper and clove. On the palate, juicy raspberry, floral pastille and licorice flavors are lifted by tangy acidity. Silky and seamless on the incisive finish, which is firmed by taut, fine-grained tannins that fade smoothly into the wine's juicy fruit. An outstanding effort, especially for an entry-level bottling." –Aug 2014
Wine Spectator Soter Vineyards, 2012 Soter Pinot Noir North Valley
"Lithe and vital, brimming with red berry, cinnamon, coffee and spice flavors that dance winsomely on the refined finish."
Wine Advocate Soter Vineyards, 2012 Soter Pinot Noir North Valley
"The 2012 Pinot Noir North Valley comes mainly from the Yamhill-Carlton district, fermented in open-top fermenters with 30% whole-cluster, raised in 16% new oak. It has a generous bouquet with small red cherries and pomegranate scents that are just a little muffled at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin: brambly red berry fruit interlaced with white pepper and clove, maintaining good depth toward the slightly dusty finish. Fine." –April 2015
For North Valley wines, Tony Soter has partnered with some of the area’s most meticulous and talented growers to assemble wines that reflect the region. They are crafted from a diverse set of clones, soil types, and microclimates within the Willamette Valley.
Winemaker James Cahill works with Tony Soter, and handles the wines using traditional, small batch methods. North Valley wines are aged in barrel cellars alongside the Soter Vineyards Estate wines, mostly in previously used French Oak employed as nurturing vessels rather than an overt flavor enhancer. The wine offers a compelling and classic Oregon Pinot Noir aroma profile.
Approximately 15% new French oak. Remaining cooperage: 2-3 yr old barrels (20% whole cluster fermentation)
