"The 2014 Chardonnay Envoy is Sonoma-Loeb's top Chardonnay bottling. Rich, ample and generous on the palate, the Envoy shows the more overt, flamboyant side of Chardonnay. Lemon confit, white flowers, tropical fruits, chamomile, orange blossom, pastry crust and sweet vanillin notes are all fused together in a deeply expressive Carneros Chardonnay to drink now and over the next few years." –Aug-16
"The light greenish gold 2014 Chardonnay Envoy plays it closer to the vest, with more structure but also more density than its sibling. Nevertheless, it is not quite as charming as its sibling at present. Some notes of orange oil, lemon oil and spice are all present in this medium to full-bodied, promising Chardonnay that seems to be built for cellaring of 10 years or more."
As the pinnacle of the Sonoma-Loeb Chardonnay portfolio, Envoy is a limited production wine made using grapes from the very best vineyard blocks of the acclaimed Sangiacomo Vineyard in the Sonoma-Carneros region. This wine focuses on the Wente, Hyde and Robert Young clones of Chardonnay. These low-yielding selections have a track record of producing some of the best Chardonnays in California. In the true Burgundian style, the wine is barrel fermented and undergoes malolactic fermentation as it ages for eight months on the lees.
