"The deep ruby colored 2013 Pinot Noir Melville Vineyard (50% stems and 20 months in 50% new French oak) shows the vineyard's telltale gaminess, as well as tons of salty sea breeze, ground herbs, sweet black currants and wood smoke. Big, rich, beautifully textured and voluptuous, drink it anytime over the coming decade." –Aug-16
"The 2013 Pinot Noir Melville Vineyard is soft, succulent and deeply expressive. Dark cherry, plum, menthol, licorice, sweet spices and violets all flesh out in an effortless, supple Pinot that will drink well with minimal cellaring."
The SAMsARA sections sit just behind the Melville winery. The 6-rows of Pinot Noir soil is a darker textured clay-based soil with slightly increased vigor and minerals, resulting in more complex fruit. It is 50% whole-cluster pressed and spends 18 months in 20% new French oak barrels with native malolactic fermentation. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
