"A step up, the 2014 Syrah Rodgers Creek Vineyard is a blockbuster effort that reminds me of a good vintage of the Côte Rôtie La Mouline from Guigal. Awesome notes of incense, lavender, bacon fat, and spring flowers gives way to a full-bodied, voluptuous Syrah that has a sexy, seamless texture, sweet tannin, and a big finish. This cuvée saw 10% Viognier and is an exotic, intense, superstar of a Syrah readers should snatch up. 587 cases."

"The 2014 Syrah Rodgers Creek Vineyard shows more floral and savory character than the Cole Creek tasted alongside it. Dried flowers, sage, mint, leather and smoke all add considerable aromatic nuance to this super-expressive, mid-weight Syrah. The Rodgers Creek offers a very appealing interplay of dense fruit and lifted aromatics, with enough structure to develop nicely in bottle for many years to come."

"The 2014 Syrah Rodger's Creek Vineyard is medium garnet-purple in color and reveals a very pretty perfume of kirsch, chocolate-covered cherries and mulberries with hints of potpourri, Provence herbs and fungi. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a beautiful velvety texture and wonderful freshness supporting the elegant perfumed layers, finishing on a compelling mineral note."

WINE
2014 Ramey Syrah Rodgers Creek Vineyard
Ramey Wine Cellars

90% Syrah and 10% Viognier

This unique property is on the western, cooler side of Sonoma Mountain, recently approved as its own AVA - Petaluma Gap. Ramey's block was planted in 2002, 800 feet up the southwest face of the mountain. The inclusion of whole Syrah clusters (roughly 30%) in the fermentation heightens the “Syrahness” of this wine. The Syrah and Viognier are co-fermented, and as with all of Ramey's wines, native yeast fermentation and spontaneous malolactic fermentation were completed.

SOIL Old, rocky volcanic soils
CLONES Planted to Syrah Clone 877, with three rows of Viognier
VINTAGE
Growing Season 2014 was another classic vintage, if early. A mild winter and spring caused an early bud break followed by consistent temperatures throughout the summer, promoting even ripening. We had ample hang time which in turn yielded intense flavors and a rich texture.
WINEMAKING
This vintage aged sur lies with monthly bâtonnage and rested 25 months in 100% new French barrels. This wine was bottled without filtration in February 2017.
