"The brilliant 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Annum has licorice, floral notes, smoky underlying subtle oak, blackberry and cassis and a full-bodied mouthfeel with moderate but sweet tannin. This dense wine is exuberant/boisterous and should offer gorgeous drinking over the next 20+ years. " –Mar 2016
"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Annum is one of the richer wines in David Ramey's range, but I don't see it as meaningfully more complex than the straight Cabernet Sauvignon, perhaps because the 100% new oak is a bit pronounced at this stage. Most of the fruit for the Annum is sourced from hillside vineyards in Mount Veeder, Oakville and Rutherford."
"I tasted through Ramey's 2013s, all of which looked to be very impressive.... David Ramey, who is one of the veterans of high-quality winemaking on California's North Coast, worked in France and at some of the top Napa wineries (Rudd and Dominus) before settling in Healdsburg in Sonoma Valley. (95-97)" –Jan 2015
The eighth vintage of this blend--it represents Ramey's version of a “winemaker’s wine.” Annum is the one red wine made each year that is selected from a range of prestigious vineyards to make the best blend possible wine that vintage.
The 2013 Annum blend is 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Cabernet Franc. Aging the 2013 sur lies with monthly bâtonnage has coated the tannins and smoothly integrated the wood. This vintage aged for 23 months in new French oak barrels (Taransaud and Darnajou). Non-filtered.
