"The 2013 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard stands out in this range for its striking aromatics. Sweet floral notes open up first. The Ritchie is just as subtle and nuanced on the palate. Classy and polished throughout, the Ritchie is all about finesse. It should drink well for the better part of the next decade." –Feb-16
"Shows amazing vibrancy and purity of flavor, brimming with juicy, lemon-scented green apple, white peach and tangerine notes, enlivened by zesty acidity and a long, persistent aftertaste that maintains focus and depth. Drink now through 2020. 1,250 cases made."
"From a famous terroir comes the 2013 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard, which was planted in 1972 and possesses some of the oldest Chardonnay vines in Northern California. The wine has lemon custard notes intermixed with orange marmalade and honeysuckle in a medium to full-bodied, refreshing style. Drink now-2020." –Mar 2016
Ritchie Vineyard is widely spaced, as was the fashion in the early 70s. These old vines (40 years-old) produce tiny quantities of grapes per vine.
Native-yeast and full native malolactic fermentation take place in barrel with sur lies bâtonnage. After aging 18 months in François Frères French oak barrels (30% new), this Chardonnay is fined and settled in tank. It is then bottled without filtration. (1250 cs)
2013 summed up to be a perfect vintage with clear sunny days and cool evenings. This produced a long, moderate growing season with extended hang time and even ripening, resulting in a full range of flavors while retaining natural acidity.
