Rhys Vineyards, 2012 Rhys Pinot Noir Bearwallow Vineyard

"Coming from Anderson Valley in California's North Coast, the 2012 Pinot Noir Bearwallow Vineyard is distinctly different than the Santa Cruz Mountain releases. Full, layered and supple, with possibly more mid-palate flesh than the slightly more racy 2012s from further south, this beauty gives up lovely notes of passion fruits, wild herbs (thyme, rosemary, lavender), eucalyptus and spice. Medium to full-bodied, layered and multi-dimensional on the palate, with a brilliant texture, this impeccably balanced beauty will age gracefully for another decade or more."

2012 Rhys Pinot Noir Bearwallow Vineyard
Rhys Vineyards

While driving northwest on Hwy 128 through the "Deep End" of Anderson Valley, the sight of the steep vineyard-covered hills rising above the redwoods is quite spectacular. Bearwallow sits at 600 feet in elevation and is farmed biodynamically. As with all of Rhys' wines, winemaking is based on a hands-off, gravity-focused approach. Fermentation with native yeasts is followed by aging in high quality, tightly-grained new French oak. The wine is never pumped, fined, or filtered.
