"Sourced from a very warm and low-yielding vintage, the heady and ripe 2011 Mather Teresina is produced with the oldest family vines, from where they select the best grapes. It's a blend of 50% Garnacha, 30% Cariñena and 20% Morenillo from vines averaging 60 years of age and matured in French oak for 20 months. We go back to the style of ripe and generously oaked, powerful reds from the 1990s with abundant notes of thyme and rosemary over a core of dark plums and cherries, and something dusty/earthy. The palate is full-bodied with great intensity, abundant tannins and penetrating flavors. One for the t-bone steak. 5,500 bottles were produced." –Oct-16
50% Garnacha, 30% Cariñena, 20% Morenillo. Organically grown (certified) vines planted from 1950 - 1960. Tended in limestone and clay soil at 460 m (1,509ft) elevation. This is a vegan wine.
Mather Teresina is the flagship wine of Celler Vinos Piñol, made with organically grown grapes in the high elevation region of Terra Alta, located south of Barcelona. The Piñol family has been wine growers for four generations and Mather Teresina pays homage to the family's grandmother. This limited production wine is unique, made in part with the nearly extinct (and indigenous to the area) Morenillo grape. This collector's wine offers quality several times its price and it can age and improve for decades.
20 - 24 months in 90% French and 10% American and oak barrels.
