Piancornello, 2012 Piancornello 'Riserva' Brunello di Montalcino

"With only 2,700 bottles made, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a rare and precious wine. This Riserva does not have the fruity exuberance that you get in the 2013 Annata wine. Instead, it is etched and sophisticated with pronounced aromas of dried cherry, tar, leather, crushed mineral and campfire ash. It offers volume, lasting richness and power. Not all of the Riservas from this vintage reach this level of balance and integrity. This is a standout wine among its peers."

VINEYARD The Piancornello estate is located in the southern part of Montalcino, where the wines typically show considerable breadth and richness. This along with the steep slope of the vineyard allow for substantial drainage. The vineyards are 10-20 years old and planted with highly-selected clones in order to give low yields and loose clusters. Vines are grafted on stalks resistant to drought and high summer temperatures.

SOIL Volcanic origin & very rich in small stony material

VINIFICATION AND AGING The Riserva is made with a clone that has smaller bunches and smaller berries. By law, Riserva must be aged for at least 5 years (with a minimum of 2 years in cask) before release.
