Wine Advocate Peter Michael Winery, 2014 Peter Michael Chardonnay 'Mon Plaisir'
"The 2014 Chardonnay Mon Plaisir shows more Meursault-like smokiness, roasted hazelnuts, with hints of citrus oil, poached pear, tropical pineapple and brioche. It is a big, hefty Chardonnay to drink over the next decade." –Oct-16
Vinous Peter Michael Winery, 2014 Peter Michael Chardonnay 'Mon Plaisir'
"Peter Michael's 2014 Chardonnay Mon Plaisir wraps around the palate with gorgeous depth and textural richness, two of its principal signatures. Candied lemon, succulent apricot and spice notes meld into the creamy, voluptuous finish. This south/south-east facing site at 1,600 feet planted with old Wente clone Chardonnay yields distinctly ample wines."
Wine Spectator Peter Michael Winery, 2014 Peter Michael Chardonnay 'Mon Plaisir'
"Shows plenty of up-front wood that works into a more complete and compelling effort, offering tiers of pithy citrus, honeydew, green apple and pear flavors, ending spicy. Drink now. 1,770 cases made." –Jun-16
The Mon Plaisir (French for "my pleasure") is 100% Old Wente Clone Chardonnay from selected blocks of the Estate vineyard in eastern Sonoma County, which sits above Knights Valley at 1,700-1,800 feet in elevation. The volcanic Rhyolite soils, ideal southeastern exposure and abundant cooling marine influences of this vineyard allow for low yields and a distinct complexity and texture in the wine.
Fermented using native yeasts in French oak barrel, followed by 11 months barrel-aging sur lies with weekly bâtonnage. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
