"Aromas of walnuts, blackberry, and blueberry follow through to a full body, firm tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Very structured and rich. Give it a year or two to come together, but already excellent. -James Suckling"

"Made entirely with Sangiovese, this offers aromas of spicy plum, violet, blackberry, toast and a whiff of oak-driven spice. The firmly structured palate delivers black cherry, clove, anise and a note of grilled sage alongside assertive tannins that leave an astringent finish. Give it time to unwind."

"Discreet nuances of oak add vanilla and spice flavors to the core of black cherry and black currant in this firm yet balanced red, with echoes of fruit. Best from 2016 through 2022. 2,600 cases made."

WINE
2012 Poliziano Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 'Asinone' DOCG
Poliziano

In the best years, Asinone is produced from 100% Sangiovese, otherwise they include about 10% Colorina and Merlot from the younger vineyards.

South/southwest facing vines are planted 350 m above sea level in soft clay soils mixed with some fossils.

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature with milling that includes repassing the must over the grape dregs. Fermentation and maceration take 20 - 25 days. The wine ages 16 - 18 months in "barriques" of French oak.

Asinone is only produced in the best years, and the number of bottles depends on the quality of the vintage. Average production is about 20,000 - 40,000 bottles. The years in which it is not bottled, Asinone is "downgraded" to basic Nobile di Montepluciano.
