"A bit shy on the nose, with ample cherry, raspberry, black pepper and earth flavors. This builds to the long finish, where a spice accent emerges. Shows fine balance but needs a little time."

"Dark red cherries, smoke, plums and exotic spices inform Poliziano's 2011 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. A supple, engaging wine, the 2011 is an excellent choice for drinking over the next handful of years. Hints of smoke, licorice and tobacco add darkness on the ripe, racy finish. The flavors are a bit roasted - in the style of the year - but the wine's balance is solid, all things considered."

The Prugnolo Gentile grape gets the winery's closest attention and care. This characteristic grape of Montepulciano expresses the full potential of a region with an acknowledged gift for viticulture.

VITICULTURE: 85% Prugnolo Gentile – 15% Colorino, Canaiolo, & Merlot. All manually harvested from clay soils situated 300-400 meters above sea level.

VINIFICATION: Fermentation in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature. The wine is aged for a period of 14 – 16 months in wood. Two-thirds are aged in "barriques" and "tonneaux" of French Oak (80% second-use and 20% new), and one-third in traditional casks.
