James Suckling Pulenta Estate, 2012 Pulenta Gran Malbec
"Loads of stones and cool fruits such as blueberry and raspberry. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and berry, chocolate and hints of cream. Very persistent and polished. Half the grapes come from Valle de Uco and rest from Agrelo. Better in 2020." –May-16
Vinous Pulenta Estate, 2012 Pulenta Gran Malbec
"Bright ruby-red. Cherry, blackberry, menthol and pepper aromas combine with strong, exotic oak notes of coconut, chocolate and spices. Supple, silky and densely packed, showing good inner-mouth lift considering its 14.5% alcohol, along with slightly tart acidity. Finishes with ripe but serious tannins and a bit of alcoholic warmth. Needs another year or two to harmonize."
Sourced from the best blocks of the Alto Agrelo estate, which sits at an elevation of over 3,200 feet and is carefully farmed to obtain intense aromas and full phenolic ripeness. The wine undergoes pre-fermentative cold soak and several delestages during fermentation, which aid in extracting color, structure, and aromas. Traditional alcoholic fermentation occurs in small concrete tanks and oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation occurs in French oak barrels, after which the wine is aged for 18 months.
