James Suckling Viña Cobos, 2013 Viña Cobos 'Volturno'
"Aromas of dried meat, dark fruit and currant. Decadent character. Full body, chocolate, tea and berry. Velvety tannins and a savory finish. 95% cabernet sauvignon with the balance malbec. Drink or hold." –May-16
Vinous Viña Cobos, 2013 Viña Cobos 'Volturno'
"Bright medium ruby. Aromas of cassis, licorice and violet convey much more energy than the Cobos Marchiori Vineyard Malbec. Highly concentrated, broad and utterly seamless, with enough acidity to give shape and lift to the dark berry flavors. This large-scaled, rather powerful wine finishes with serious but ripe tannins and terrific palate-saturating length."
All hand-harvested from the Marchiori Vineyard in Perdriel, Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza. The 80+ year old Malbec vines and 15+ year old Cabernet vines sit on well-drained, alluvial soils that consist of an upper strata of grey and white clay layered with sandy loam.
The wine is fermented in closed-top, stainless steel tanks. Native malolactic fermentation occurs in 100% new Taransaud French oak barrels for 18 months. The finished wine is bottled unfined & unfiltered.
