Vinous Paul Hobbs Winery, 2014 Paul Hobbs Pinot Noir Russian River
"The 2014 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley) is terrific. Bright, nuanced and savory, the straight Russian River Pinot has all the attributes of this strong vintage. Sweet floral notes round out a Pinot that is understated and silky. This is a rare appellation-level Pinot that could use another few years in bottle to fully flesh out." –Feb 2016
Wine Advocate Paul Hobbs Winery, 2014 Paul Hobbs Pinot Noir Russian River
"The 2014 Pinot Noirs are richer wines. The 2014 Pinot Noir Russian River, which is in bottle, displays a seamless integration of acidity, tannin, medium to full body, and lots of raspberry and black cherry fruit that moves toward bluer fruits on the palate. This is a beauty to drink over the next 7-8 years."

Fruit is hand-harvested, picked at night and hand-sorted while still cold from the field. It uses 8% whole cluster with a 5-day cold soak and 16 day maceration. The wine is fermented in small, open-top stainless steel tanks using indigenous yeasts. Gentle punchdowns and pumpovers take place, and the wine ages 11 months in French Oak barrels (43% new). Spontaneous malolactic fermentation occurs in barrels.
2014 was the third straight outstanding growing season in a row, following the excellent 2012 and 2013 vintages. Dry winter and spring conditions limited canopy vigor, and
a warm growing season with a lack of extreme heat spikes resulted in prolonged, even ripening through harvest. The resulting wines possess great site specificity, depth and quality.
