Vinous Paul Hobbs Winery, 2014 Paul Hobbs Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard
"The Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard, a wine that can at times be a bit rustic, is anything but that in 2014. Creamy and voluptuous, the Hyde is also endowed with tremendous thrust. Dark red cherry jam, graphite, herbs, smoke, tar and licorice are all pushed forward. In the end, nothing really sticks out, rather it is the wine's exceptional balance that is most impressive." –Feb-16

"Offering notable subtlety and finesse, this is understated throughout, with tender wild berry, cherry, light oak and spicy floral scents, all working together to create a complete and enticing effort. Drink now through 2024"

Hyde Vineyard offers an eastern exposure with Haire Series alluvial sandy-clay loam soils. Fruit is hand-harvested at night and hand-sorted while still cold from the field.
It undergoes a 5% whole cluster inclusion and 5-day cold soak with 15 days total maceration. Fruit is fermented in small, open-top stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts and gentle punchdowns and pumpovers. The wine is aged 11 months in French oak barrels (63% new). Spontaneous malolactic fermentation occurs in barrel.
2014 was the third straight outstanding growing season in a row, following the excellent 2012 and 2013 vintages. Dry winter and spring conditions limited canopy vigor, and a warm growing season with a lack of extreme heat spikes resulted in prolonged, even ripening through harvest. The resulting wines possess great site specificity, depth and quality.
