"As for the 2014 Chardonnays, they all possess great acid and obvious intensity. IÄôll keep my notes short, but they are all brilliant wines, including the 2014 Chardonnay Russian River, which has plenty of citrus oil, white flowers, quince and peach."

"The 2014 Chardonnay opens with pronounced spice-led notes of ginger, allspice and anise over pineapple, guava and green mangoes. Rich, concentrated and wonderfully expressive on the medium-bodied palate, it has a satiny texture and a deliciously savory finish."

"The 2014 Chardonnay (Russian River Valley) is a classic wine from Paul Hobbs. Creamy, ample and highly expressive, the Russian River Chardonnay makes a terrific introduction to these wines. Dried pear, chamomile, sage and dried flowers are nicely delineated throughout."

WINE
2014 Paul Hobbs Chardonnay Russian River Valley
Paul Hobbs Winery

This wine comes from various sites and exposures throughout the Russian River Valley, including Edward James Estate, Ellen Lane Estate, Ross Station Estate, O’Connor, and Ulises Valdez.

Hand-harvested, whole-clusters are gently pressed and barrel-fermented with indigenous yeasts. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation is also completed in barrel. The wine then ages for 11 months in the French oak (46% new) and rests on the lees with weekly batonnage, giving the wine a rich, complex profile.

2014 Vintage
2014 was the third straight outstanding growing season in a row, following the excellent 2012 and 2013 vintages. Dry winter and spring conditions limited canopy vigor, and a warm growing season with a lack of extreme heat spikes resulted in prolonged, even ripening through harvest. The resulting wines possess great site specificity, depth and quality.
