Paul Hobbs Winery, 2014 Paul Hobbs Chardonnay 'Cuvee Augustina', Richard Dinner Vineyard

98+
"The 2014 Chardonnay Cuvee Agustina Richard Dinner Vineyard is a little mute at the moment with ripe peaches, exotic spices and ginger over a tropical core of pineapples and guava, with wafts of brioche and aniseed. The palate is full-on rich and buxom, with a little cedar peeking through the densely packed tropical fruits and savory layers, supported by a lively backbone and finishing epically with minerals."

"Lemon confit, white flowers, mint and white pepper give the 2014 Chardonnay Richard Dinner Vineyard a distinctive upper register that balances the richness of the fruit nicely. The new French oak is a bit dominant at this stage. Otherwise, this is a pretty and nuanced Chardonnay from Paul Hobbs."

Richard Dinner Vineyard is located on Sonoma Mountain, where the vines experience long, warm days and then cool down at night as they are blanketed by fog from the Pacific Ocean. This allows fruit to develop rich flavor while retaining good acidity. Soils are dark brown clay loam and gravel with a strata of volcanic tuft.
