95-97
"The 2014 Chardonnay Ellen Lane Estate exhibits more gravelly, wet pebble notes and loads of uplifted aromatics, including peach, pineapple, orange rind and lemon blossom. It is again a complex style of Chardonnay made from a cold microclimate. "

"Leading with beautiful floral notes of orange blossoms and honeysuckle, the 2014 Chardonnay Ellen Lane Estate offers a core of baked peaches, apple pie and marzipan. Full-bodied, buxom and seductively creamy in the mouth, it offers layer upon layer of perfumed stone fruit and mineral flavors, with incredible length."

"The 2014 Chardonnay Ellen Lane Estate is bold, rich and voluptuous, with creamy texture and a round, spherical feel that is quite distinctive. Silky tannins and soft contours give the wine much of its succulent, upfront personality."

2014 Paul Hobbs Chardonnay Ellen Lane Estate
Paul Hobbs Winery

This small hillside estate is the coolest vineyard in their portfolio. It offers southern and western exposures and is made up of Blucher and Josephine soil series consisting of gravel and clay loam.

Fruit is hand-harvested at night and whole cluster pressed while still cold from the field. It is barrel-fermented with indigenous yeasts for 8 months to completion. It undergoes spontaneous malolactic fermentation in barrels and ages 15 months in French Oak barrels (58% new) sur lies with biweekly bâtonnage.

2014 Vintage
2014 was the third straight outstanding growing season in a row, following the excellent 2012 and 2013 vintages. Dry winter and spring conditions limited canopy vigor, and a warm growing season with a lack of extreme heat spikes resulted in prolonged, even ripening through harvest. The resulting wines possess great site specificity, depth and quality.
