"The 2014 Grenache is a beauty. Aged 14 months in neutral oak, the wine has the classic strawberry and kirsch liqueur nose, with some lavender, pepper, and earthy, loamy soil. Its big, full-bodied, fleshy mouthfeel, with loads of glycerin, is classic Grenache texture, and this is a beauty of purity and depth, The 2014 looks to be the best they’ve made, although the 2015 reviewed a few paragraphs below should turn out to be nearly as fine. -RP" –Oct 2016
This Zinfandel is all hand-harvested from Outpost's organically-farmed estate vineyard, which sits on top of Howell Mountain at 2,200 feet above Napa Valley. The unique terroir here is defined by hard, rocky red soil, high altitude, gentle cooling breezes and sunny western exposure - all of which produces fruit of incredible intensity and richness with a distinctive spiciness.
Grapes from each block within the vineyard are fermented separately. The wine is fermented and aged in French oak barrels: 1/3 new, 2/3 neutral. The wine is neither fined nor filtered.
