"Vivid ruby-red. Assertive aromas of raspberry, cherry and fresh rose, with Asian spice and woodsmoke accents building in the glass. Juicy and precise on the palate, offering gently sweet red berry flavors and a hint of candied rose. Shows impressive energy and clarity on the long, focused finish, which features a zesty mineral nuance. Really lively for the vintage and balanced to age."

"The 2013 Pinot Noir Estate Sta. Rita Hills is gorgeous. Bright red berries, red currants, rose petals and mint all lift from the glass in a beautifully delineated Pinot endowed with striking beauty. This is a great introduction to the Melville wines and house style. The 2013 is a blend of 16 clones across the property, done with 35% whole clusters."

"One of the best values in Pinot Noir out there is Melville's 2013 Pinot Noir Estate and it overdelivers in just about every vintage. Firing on all cylinders on this occasion, with complex red fruits, rose petal and sous bois aromas and flavors all soaring from the glass, it's medium-bodied, ripe and expansive, with lots of Sta. Rita character, integrated acidity and a clean, nicely focused finish. Mostly destemmed (60%) and aged 11 months in neutral oak, it's a beauty to buy by the case and enjoy over the coming 4-5 years."

WINE
2013 Melville Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills
Melville Winery LLC

This exceptional Pinot Noir is a collection of various clones all from Melville's Sta. Rita Hills estate. Roughly half of the fruit is fermented as whole clusters with the other half gently destemmed in small (1.5 ton) open-top fermenters. Total skin and stem contact averages 30 days (seven day cold soak, two weeks of fermentation and one week extended maceration). From the press, the wine is transferred directly into neutral French oak barrels where it remains sur lie without sulfur until June, when it is gently racked and prepared for bottling in August.
