Stephen Tanzer Melville Winery LLC, 2013 Melville Pinot Noir Verna's
"Vivid ruby-red. Red fruit preserves on the nose, with complicating notes of licorice and allspice. Lively raspberry and bitter cherry flavors show very good precision, complemented by a bright mineral quality that gains strength with air. This silky, energetic pinot finishes with strong cut, persistent sweetness and sneaky, interwoven tannins." –Dec 2014
"Coming from the estate Verna's Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills and 60% destemmed, the 2013 Pinot Noir Estate Verna's Vineyard was fermented in 1.5 ton open-top stainless-steel fermenters before aging 11 months all in neutral oak. It offers pretty and complex notes of strawberries, raspberry, crushed flowers and damp underbrush on the nose. Medium-bodied, elegant and nicely fruited, it has solid precision and focus. In short, this is a terrific Pinot Noir that has lots of character and will drink nicely for 4-5 years."
"Crushed flowers, rose petals, sweet red cherries and mint lift from the glass in the 2013 Pinot Noir Estate Verna's. This is the most ethereal and delicate of the 2013 Melville Pinots. Following the harvest, Melville sold this parcel, so the 2013 is the last Verna's Pinot here." –June 2015, Antonio Galloni
100% Melville estate fruit from their Los Alamos estate, 33% of the fruit is fermented as whole clusters with 67% gently de-stemmed in small (1.5 ton) open-top fermenters.
