"There’s a marked tropical richness (think guava and melon) here compared to the producer’s other 2015 ausleses. Plump and plush despite it’s dainty alcoholic footprint, it lingers lusciously while remaining pert with acidity. Brilliantly balanced and irresistibly sweet, it can be enjoyed now through 2040."

"A heady nose of white peach and almond extract wreathed in vine-flower and honeysuckle incorporates a hint of white truffle from noble rot. Lush and creamy yet simultaneously bright and tingling, the palate introduces invigoratingly incisive cress and cooling mint, building to a buoyant, soaring, vibrant finish that for all of this wine’s richness does not forget its primary duty to refresh."

"The 2015 Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Auslese is very clear and intense yet fine and delicate in its fine Riesling and slate aromas on the nose. Lush and piquant on the palate, this is a light and salty Auslese with a good, filigreed structure, nice grip and tension and stimulating salinity in the finish."

Maximin Grunhaus

Wines from the Abtsberg vineyard were originally destined for the table of the Abbot (or “Abt”) of the Abbey of St. Maximin. The site covers 35 acres, parts of which have been planted with vines for over a thousand years. The subsoil is blue Devonian slate and the hillside runs south-east to south-west, achieving a gradient of up to 70%. Abtsberg wines are characterised by a finely structured subtle minerality, a racy acidity, generous fruit and great delicacy. They are amongst the longest lived Rieslings of the region.
