"The 2014 M5 is a very pretty, lifted red Rhône blend. Sweet floral notes and red stone fruits from the Grenache are especially vivid. I would prefer to drink this mid-weight red over the next few years at most, while the flavors remain fresh. The 2014 is delineated, delicate and impeccably balanced. The blend is 41% Grenache, 37% Syrah, 14% Mourvèdre, 4% Counoise and 4% Cinsaut." –Sep-16
Fruit comes from Santa Ynez Valley, Ballard Canyon, Santa Maria Valley, Sta Rita Hills and Foxen Canyon. Each component was pressed after fermentation and matured for 10 months in seasoned French oak barrels and puncheons before being racked one time to blend for bottling. (2423 cs)
Harvest 2014 was the earliest in history. They commenced harvest on August 8th. Quality was extraordinary with small berries, ripeness without a lot of sugar and focused varietal flavors. It was clear early on that this would be a fantastic vintage. The average temperatures in 2014 were lower than 2013. They had no weather issues. The season was so consistent they were able to pick without heat spikes or cold spells that could potentially panic or interrupt the harvest. Overall, the wines have balanced acidity, low alcohols, precious tannins and are concentrated and intense.
