"My favorite white from winemaker Doug Margerum is the 2014 Barden Chardonnay, which comes from two sites in the Sta. Rite Hills: La Encantada and La Rinconada. Aged ten months, on less, in 60% new French oak, it has terrific elegance and purity as well as classic notes of white flowers, stone fruits, salty minerality and hints of steel. Possessing rock solid balance between its textural richness and freshness, it should drink nicely for 5-6 years." –Aug-16
"The 2014 Chardonnay offers lovely interplay between the natural pliancy of the Rinconada and Encantada vineyards and the brighter, crisper nuances that are achieved at slightly lower sugars. Candied lemon, white flowers and mint are all found. This is an especially vibrant style for the Sta. Rita Hills."
The BARDEN trade name is Doug's middle name and its English meaning is “Lives near the boar's den”.
Fruit is picked for opulent flavors, barrel-fermented in 55-degree winery with full malolactic
fermentation and battonage for 4 months. The wine ages 10 months sur lie in 60% new French oak barriques from Quintessence and François
Frères, 40% neutral French oak barriques and 265 liter two year old cigar barrels from Ermitage.
