"A gorgeous wine, the 2014 Pinot Noir Platt Vineyard is aromatic, nuanced and super-finessed. Rose petal and sweet red berry notes make a strong first impression. Even so, the Platt is quite nervous and tightly wound at this stage. For that reason, I would prefer to cellar it for at least a few years. The purity of the flavors is striking, but readers will have to be patient. A closing blast of dark red/blue fruit, flowers and firm tannins portends a bright future." –Mar-17
"Medium ruby-purple in color, the 2014 Pinot Noir Platt Vineyard offers a pronounced nose of crushed black cherries, mulberries and baking spices, with hints of violets and roses. Medium-bodied with wonderful elegance, it has a great core of spicy red and black fruits with finely grained tannins and excellent length. 435 cases were made."
The Littorai section of Platt Vineyard consists of two blocks, planted in 2004. They are the highest elevation vineyards on the property,
located at 750 feet. Both are south facing and both are planted to a rootstock and to Pinot Noir selections specifically chosen by Littorai.
Platt lies only six miles from the coast and overlooks the tiny town of Bodega. Given the location's ample rainfall and exceptionally mild
climate, irrigation is a rarity at this site. The wine spends 16 months in French oak (25% new). (435 cs)
The 2014 vintage was the second vintage in a row of copious yields. Hence for a second year in a row rigorous thinning was required in many
vineyards. This involved multiple passes to ensure that crop levels were not excessive. Yields were slightly lower than 2013 and there was
a much greater percentage of small shot (seedless) berries. These small berries contribute significantly to the concentration of the
wines. This is a concentrated vintage with plenty of aging potential. They will certainly please both in their youth and with several years of aging.
