"The 2014 Chardonnay Thieriot Vineyard is delicate, nuanced and expressive, with a slight hint of reduction that is present, but not at all overpowering. Translucent delicate and striking in its beauty. Slate, white orchard fruit, mint and white pepper give the 2014 its signature energy and high toned personality. This is another exquisite, highly nuanced Chardonnay in a range from Littorai full of highlights." –Mar-17
"The 2014 Chardonnay B.A. Thieriot Vineyard is youthfully subdued at this early stage, offer suggestions of peach blossoms, grapefruit peel and yuzu, plus hints of allspice and beeswax. Light to medium-bodied and quite taut, the intensity of citrus and stone fruit is almost electric, with a lively backbone and long, mineral-laced finish. 290 cases were made."
West of the town of Occidental, on the south shoulder of a 1200 foot ridge.
This is the cooler side of the hills around Occidental yet the vineyard
is protected from the northwest winds and fog by a ridge to the north.
It overlooks the fog filled gap in the Sonoma hills, which leads to
Petaluma. Littorai Wines has a long term lease on this site and it is
farmed using organic and biodynamic methods, but is not certified.
The wine spends 11 months in French oak (25% new) and 5 months in stainless steel before bottling. (290 cs)
Some vintages are very expressive as soon as they finish primary
fermentation in barrel. Others come around more slowly. In the early
months of barrel aging, the 2014 chardonnays had great acidity but that
seemed to dominate everything else. Hence my early tasting notes are
full of comments like “time will tell” or “promising but very linear
now”. In the last few months of aging the 2014 vintage really came
around. The Ph. levels of the 2014s are similar to the 2013s (read
low, which means high acidity) but the total acidities are actually
higher. The last few months of aging prior to bottling have given the
wines time to integrate that acidity and allowed additional aromatic
complexity to develop. The acidity is bold and the finishes are very
long. This should be another vintage which will age very well.
