Domaine des Lises, 2015 Equis Cornas

"Tasted from tank prior to bottling, the 2015 Cornas is dense like fruitcake, loaded with Christmas spice, candied fruit and almond paste. It's full-bodied yet on the supple side for Cornas and should be approachable soon after release. The fruit comes from Chaillot (25%), Sabarotte (25%) and Les Côtes (50%)."

"Limpid purple. Deep-pitched black and blue fruit, olive and candied violet aromas are sharpened by a peppery nuance. Dense, ripe and appealingly sweet, offering sappy blackberry, cherry compote and violet pastille flavors that show good energy and spicy lift. Finishes on a repeating pepper note, displaying strong tenacity and slow-building, harmonious tannins."

100% Syrah

VINEYARD Fruit is drawn predominantly from a 20-year-old parcel on the slopes of the great Cornas lieu dit, Les Chaillots, with the balance from old-vine parcels in La Sabarotte and La Côte. The vines have always been organically managed, and the owner/grower is a respected friend of the Graillots. Maxime Graillot's and Thomas Schmittel have the final say as to when the grapes are harvested and are able to send their own team in to do the picking.

VINIFICATION AND AGING The wine is crafted à la the de lises Crozes though the whole bunch varies between 10-30% depending on the vintage and the wine is cellared before release to align fruit and tannin.
