"The 2013 Chardonnay La Hermana is gorgeous. Apricot pit, butter, smoke, spice and almonds meld together in a pliant, beautifully layered Chardonnay built on texture. Distinctive, nuanced and impeccably balanced, the 2013 is pure class. The 2013 is a blend of fruit from three sources; 60% Bien Nacido, 33% Dierberg and 7% Maldonado. Most importantly, though, the 2013 La Hermana is a real stunner." –June 2015, Antonio Galloni
Stephen Tanzer Liquid Farm, 2013 Liquid Farm 'La Hermana' Chardonnay
"(all neutral oak): Pale gold. Musky pear skin, yellow plum and Meyer lemon on the fragrant nose. Opens up nicely on the palate, offering juicy citrus and orchard fruit flavors braced by bitter quinine and dusty minerals. At once rich and lively, finishing with excellent clarity and a late note of honeysuckle."
"Very fresh aromas of lemongrass, blanched almonds, white flowers and hints of pineapple emerge from this blend of vineyards, featuring 60% Bien Nacido, 33% Dierberg and 7% Maldonado fruit. It's steely and laser-focused on the palate, with a good mix of lemon juice acidity and lime pith grip, not overpowering in any direction." –March 2015
The inaugural vintage of this bottling, La Hermana means “the sister” in Spanish as it comes from the estate's neighboring Santa Maria Valley AVA. Vineyards include 60% Bien Nacido, 33% Dierberg and 7% Maldonado. Hand-picked fruit undergoes native yeast fermentation in barrel followed by natural malolactic fermentation (85%) and aging in neutral oak for 11 months.
