Wine Advocate
Henri Bourgeois, 2014 Bourgeois Sancerre 'La Bourgeoise'

"The Sancerre la Bourgeoise is an old vines selection from the flinty soils in Saint-Satur. Straightly pressed and fermented in stainless steel and oak, this is a more aromatic and fruity Sancerre with ripe fruits intermixed with some stony notes. Round and elegant on the palate and with lots of salt and a nice grip, this is a medium to full-bodied, very accessible though characterful wine with tension and lots of canned peach aromas."

Henri Bourgeois

100% Sauvignon Blanc

“La Bourgeoise” is made from old Sauvignon vines growing on flinty slopes first worked by the monks of Saint Satur. The old vines of Domaine Henri Bourgeois offer a distinct character with notes as aromatically diverse and complex as the rugged terrain from which they came.

A portion of the wine is fermented in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks (70%) and the other portion in French oak barrels from the famous Tronçais forest (30%). Patiently aged for 7-8 months on its fine lees in the oak barrel with periodic hand stirring of the lees (“batonnage”), La Bourgeoise is only bottled after achieving one year of tank and barrel maturation. This prestigious selection will continue to evolve for 10 to 12 years.
