"(raised entirely in barriques, one-third new): Good bright red. Perfumed scents of currant, menthol and flowers. Silky, rich and sexy, with red berry flavors complicated by white peach and watermelon qualities, along with a suggestion of amaro. Very supple in the middle palate but the tannins are firm."

2010 Di Gresy Barbaresco 'Gaiun', Martinenga DOCG
Marchesi Di Gresy

100% Nebbiolo

Situated in the Commune of Barbaresco, Martinenga Barbaresco takes its name from the vineyard. Vines are planted 280 meters above sea level with south-facing exposure.

Fruit ferments for 8-10 days with a floating cap followed by 5-10 days fermentation with submerged cap. Daily pump overs take place, and malolactic fermentation is carried out in full at a controlled temperature after the alcoholic fermentation. The wine is aged in French oak barriques (Allier) for 30 months and matured in bottle for 15 months. First made in 1982 as a selection from the part of the Martinenga vineyard near Asili, Gaiun is only produced in the best vintages.
