2009 Di Gresy Barbaresco 'Camp Gros', Martinenga, DOCG
Stephen Tanzer Marchesi Di Gresy, 2009 Di Gresy Barbaresco 'Camp Gros', Martinenga, DOCG
"Good bright medium red with a hint of amber at the rim. Profound balsamic notes are perked up by wild herbs and violet on the nose. Silky and very rich; the sweetest and biggest by far of these 2009s and the most reflective of the warm year. Can't quite match the cut of the 2010, but this round wine is nicely framed by underlying minerality." –Nov/Dec 2013
James Suckling Marchesi Di Gresy, 2009 Di Gresy Barbaresco 'Camp Gros', Martinenga, DOCG
"A silky and refined red with plum and cherry aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. A beautiful wine now. Don't miss it. -James Suckling"
Wine Spectator Marchesi Di Gresy, 2009 Di Gresy Barbaresco 'Camp Gros', Martinenga, DOCG
"The aromas evoke cedar and sandalwood, followed by floral and strawberry notes. Very elegant, with a vibrant feel and a long finish." –April 2014
The estate's prized wine, Camp Gros has been produced since 1978 and only in the best vintages. It is made from a special selection of grapes coming from a small part of the Martinenga vineyard near Rabajà. The vineyard site boasts south-facing exposure at 280 meters above sea level. It offers the very best in terms of terrain, exposure and micro-climate, all of which contribute to the wine's immense aging potential.
Fruit spends 8-10 days in fermentation with floating cap followed by 5-10 days fermentation with submerged cap. Daily pump overs take place and malolactic fermentation is carried out in full at a controlled temperature after the alcoholic fermentation. The wine ages in French barriques for six months, then in Slavonian oak casks for 24 months and finally, matures in the bottle for 15 months.
