"This old-vines wine is really clean and light on the nose, with aromas of red apple, fresh-cut white sapote and blanched almonds. The laser-focused palate is dominated by a refreshing texture, like sipping an ice-cold martini or licking a steel knife, with sea salt and lemon peel flavors most prevalent." –July 2015
"The 2013 Chenin Blanc Ernesto Wickenden Vineyard Old Vines is soft, supple and accessible. Pear, melon, almonds and spices inform the expressive, silky finish. This is an impeccable white from Foxen to drink now and over the next few years."
"Light, bright yellow. Lively, mineral-laced citrus and orchard fruit aromas show very good clarity, picking up a sexy floral quality with air. Dry and focused on the palate, offering energetic pear and Meyer lemon flavors and a touch of bitter quinine. Finishes stony and long, with repeating floral character and a touch of tarragon." –Dec 2014
This 3-acre vineyard in the heart of the Santa Maria Bench was planted 43 years ago. Situated in a wind-protected swale at the mouth of Tepesquet Canyon, it is named for Dick's great uncle, Ernesto Wickenden. Hand-harvested grapes are gently whole-cluster pressed. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks for approximately 45-60 days is followed by a period of aging for 4 months in neutral French oak barrels.
