"The 2014 Chardonnay Haynes Vineyard, from a site in Coombsville, is endowed with a real sense of crystalline purity and nuance. Orange blossom, mint, spice, wild flowers and honey are some of the notes that take shape. A wine of exceptional purity and nuance, the 2014 impresses with its sublime balance. This is a fabulous showing from Ehren Jordan and Failla, as well as one of the many highlights in this strong lineup. Don't miss it." –Feb-16
The Hayne’s Vineyard was planted in 1966 by Pat and Duncan Haynes and represents one of the oldest Chardonnay producing vineyards in Napa Valley. Planted to Wente clones, the vineyard sits in the shadow of Mt. George, the once-active volcano responsible for Coombsville’s distinctive layer of soils. The grapes are whole-cluster pressed to 20% concrete egg, 20% new Frenck oak and the remainder to neutral puncheon and barrique. The juice undergoes native yeast fermentation and ages sur-lie for 11 months. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered. (484 cases)
The 2014 Vintage while certainly the qualitative
equal of 2012 and 2013, has a rather different tone.
These wines are brooding, intense, elegant and
deeply textural. They are wines of meditation and
grace and will provide years of growing, fascinating
complexity. An incredible reminder of how precious
the relationships are, with their own vineyards and
the vineyards they source from.
