Failla, 2015 Failla Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard

"Appealing for the rich, perfumed apple, pear and melon flavors, with spicy oak giving this another dimension and smoothing out the pithy citrus skin texture. Ends with a minerally aftertaste. Drink now through 2020.—J.L."

2015 Failla Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard

The Hudson Vineyard, which covers 200 planted acres in southwestern Napa Valley, was planted in the early 1980s by Texas expat Lee Hudson. A warm foil to the cooler Haynes vineyard, Wente clone Chardonnay is planted on Haire loam soil at the southern tip of the Maycamas Mountain range, approximately 20 miles north of the San Pablo Bay. Cool and foggy in the morning, fruit ripens evenly thanks to abundant sunshine during the growing season.

The 2015 Vintage was, on average, 30% smaller than previous year’s harvests. The fruit that was received, while not nearly as large as previous years, was certainly some of the best looking. Fruit cluster morphology – sturdy, small, tight clusters.
