"This is prodigiously sweet, with a buckwheat honey intensity and golden peach nectar flavor. The acidity carries a spice that's warming and intriguing, and adds a balancing element to a wine that's baroquely opulent."

"Dusty, smoky earth tones fade to reveal a rich, fruity palate of sweet white peaches and tangerine. Despite its light-footed nature, there's a lusciousness in mouthfeel, cut with spine-tingling acidity on the midpalate. Enjoy from 2018 to allow its honeyed mineral notes to develop."

"Golden yellow. Succulent tropical fruits, hazelnut and lemon oil on the alluring nose, complicated bya note of licorice botrytis. Luscious glazed apricot coats the palate, with bright, well-integrated acidity keeping the wine fresh. Extremely long and sweet but also elegant on the finish, this is a serious Auslese.          "

2013 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Auslese Gold Cap
Fritz Haag

The terrifyingly steep Brauneberg hillside has been revered as a top vineyard site since the Romans first cultivated wine grapes in the Mosel valley in the second century AD. The Juffer Sonnenuhr is the choicest center cut of the Brauneberg — the steepest and most south-facing part of the hillside that surrounds the sundial. This Grosse Lage (Grand Cru) site produces profound, distinctive wines. Auslese is a special selection of late-picked, very ripe clusters with about 50 percent botrytis-affected grapes.
