Wine Advocate El Porvenir, 2014 El Porvenir Laborum Torrontés
"It's always controversial to oak a perfumed varietal like Torrontés because there is a risk that the wood will interfere too much. It's not the case with the 2014 Torrontés Laborum Oak Fermented, where the oak is very subtle and the character of the grape still comes through allowing the wine to gain texture and depth. It's hard to believe the wine matured for six months in brand new French barriques... Great! 6,600 bottles." –Aug-15
This Torrontés comes from 55 year old vines in Finca “El Retiro”. The vineyard is situated in Cafayate Valley, Salta at 5,413 feet elevation. Hand-picked grapes undergo pre-fermentative carbonic maceration in a press for 4 hours, followed by primary fermentation in new French oak barrels with selected yeast for 25 days. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation is completed and the wine is aged 6 months in new French oak barrels.
