Stephen Tanzer Cent'Anni, 2010 Cent'Anni Buoni Anni Sangiovese
"Bright ruby-red. Fresh cherry and dark berry aromas are complemented by suggestions of dried flowers and pungent herbs. A fleshy, seamless wine, offering bitter cherry and tart berry skin flavors and a hint of candied rose. Finishes dry and precise, with a hint of blood orange and very good persistence." –Nov/Dec 2013
This is California central coast Sangiovese made like a classic Rosso di Montalcino – dry, lean and complex, with characteristic Sangiovese aromas and flavors.
Even though Cent'Anni grows in one of the cooler climates in California, they still get fully physiological mature grapes. The firm but generous structure lets you know it's drinkable now, as the acidity and smooth tannins have resolved after two years in large neutral French oak puncheons. There is a miniscule bit of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the wine adding to its complexity.
