Crocus, 2014 Crocus 'La Roche Mere' Malbec de Cahors

"The top wine in the range made in a joint venture between the Bertrand Vigouroux family of Cahors and Sonoma winemaker/consultant Paul Hobbs, this wine is hugely dense. It has powerful tannins along with opulent black fruits and serious concentration. Expect this wine to age for several more years. Drink from 2023."

VINEYARD Vineyards Farmed using low-input methods “lutte raisonnée”. Vines are dry-farmed. Fruit coming off high density planted vines comes from select blocks within two Vigouroux properties located at different altitudes.

Plateau: Above the valley at 980 feet, calcareous rocks on iron-rich red clays and specific blue clays over Kimmeridgien limestone flagstone. Enhances the finesse, balance and soft tannins.

Upper Terrace: Just below the foot hill at 558 feet, composed of ancient alluvial deposits of clay and pebble.

VINIFICATION AND AGING 3 day cold soak and 25 day total maceration. Fermentation occurs in very small stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation occurs in barrel. Aged for 24 months in 100% new Darnajou, Baron and Taransaud French oak barrels.
