Wine Enthusiast Paul Hobbs Imports, 2011 Crocus Malbec de Cahors 'Grand Vin'
"Aged 100% in new wood, this is a wine produced as a joint venture between California vintner Paul Hobbs and Cahors producer Bertrand Vigouroux. It is a major, powerful statement, rich and dense. The texture smoothes out the natural structure of Cahors Malbec to give a silky wine, the tannins in suspension in the black plum fruits. It will be better from 2017." –Aug-15

"A dense and ripe style, with plenty of meaty notes to the roasted plum and cherry tart flavors. Asian spice accents blast through to the finish, which is filled with rich chocolate and minerally hints. Drink now through 2021. 50 cases imported."

Fruit from vines ranging from 14-to 40-years-old is selected from choice blocks within two Vigouroux properties located on different terraces:
Plateau: Sits above the valley with limestone rocks and iron-rich red clay over calcareous chalk and patches of blue clay that enhance the finesse, length and red fruit notes of the finished wine.
3rd Terrace: Lying just below the 4th terrace, composed of ancient alluvial deposits of clay and silt. This fruit produces wines with bright fruit, floral notes and intense berry character with good tannic structure.
Fermentation occurs in small 1.5-ton tanks with a 3-day cold soak, pigeage and pumpovers for optimal soft tannin extraction. Total skin contact lasts 25 to 30 days. Aging lasts 24 months in 100% new French oak barrels. (3600 bts)
